Commentary on Holiness and Righteousness.

My Sunday reading of G. Campbell Morgan considered the subject of Holiness and Righteousness.
It is a portentous subject that one may find a little frightening, but it doesn’t need to be. It is a subject of beauty.

What is Holiness? The measure of Holiness is the Character of God. Righteousness pertains to conduct. Holiness pertains to character. The two words are aspects of one condition. Only in Christ Jesus can we comprehend the character of God. In Christ we know that the essence of God is Love. Grace, Mercy, Beneficence, Goodness, Justice, Wrath, Holiness and Righteousness. All are expressions of Love. Love seeks the highest for us and is fierce in our defense. As a mother defends and desires the best for her child and mourns her child’s failings, so God desires our spiritual growth and mourns our failings. “He is Love and is set upon our well-being.” G.Campbell Morgan.
Is it possible that we can become the person that God requires us to be? The answer is yes. As we walk daily in His presence He conforms us to the image of His son. As St Paul says “ Not as though I had already attained…but I follow after( press on)…Ephesians 3: 12-14

“Be therefore imitators of God as dearly loved children” Ephesians 5:1

Does a baby think; ‘I can’t walk, I can’t stand up’? No. He/she just does what babies do and does it over and over again until he/she gains the skills to walk. Even though falls and hurts are part of the process the baby continues and one day it walks and then runs.
So, brethren let us hold fast to God’s hand and one day we too will run. Let us work with God fervently towards the goal of being presented before His throne as faultless children.
“…Put off the old man… put on the new man which is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Ephesians 4 :22-24

Though earth and man were gone,
And suns and universes cease to be,
And Thou were left alone,
Every existence would exist in Thee.
